Custom Encaustic Painting Commissions

Original encaustic painting of a Lowcountry marsh sunset by Emily Scott, shown in a living room as an example for commission inspiration

Commissioning a custom encaustic painting is one of the most personal things a collector can do.

You bring the vision, the space, the colors you keep coming back to.

I bring over twenty years of working in beeswax and fire.

Together we make something that didn't exist before and couldn't have come from anywhere else.

Commissions take time and that's part of what makes them worth it.

Let's start with a conversation and see what we can create together.

Take the Creative Journey with me

What Size?

My first question is what size art are you imagining for your commission? Do you have a specific location in mind for this work of art? At this time I am only accepting commissions 18" x 18" and larger. If you are unsure the perfect size for your space, I'm happy to help you decide! A rule of thumb for placing art over furniture is always the rule of 2/3rds. For instance, if your couch is 120" long, we would want to hang a work of art that is about 80" in length.

Inspiration

What is inspiring the vision that you have for your new work of art? It will help for me to see your space, either through photos or in person (if local), to get a feel for the surrounding atmosphere (wall color, fabric swatches, light, overall mood, etc.)

I appreciate any inspiration you can provide - what particular paintings/style of mine you favor (take a peek at my Instagram for inspiration too!) any photographs, landscapes, or locations you would like me to work from, Pinterest boards, color palettes, etc. The more insight, the better!

Midway Check In

Once I receive your 50% deposit I will start working on your project. After a few weeks of creating, I will send you images of my progress to make sure we are on the same page with your vision. I typically allow 10-12 weeks for completion of each piece (and slightly longer during the holiday season.)

Pricing Explained

My prices for commissions are based on size and start at about $1,500, with most clients spending around $3,000 to $7,000 per piece. Compared to my ready-to-ship collection paintings, they run about 20% more to account for the time spent putting together a cohesive piece that meets all of your custom wishes. I request a 50% non-refundable deposit to begin, with the remaining balance, plus shipping, due once your painting is complete. I ship commissions nationwide.
